10 Easy & Healthy Summer Snacks for Kids



Being active everyday is great, but it’s also important that children continue to eat healthy and nutritious food to keep their energy levels up during the hot, active summer months.

Summer schedules can be crazy running from activity to activity and scheduling around summer vacations, so keeping it simple is the best way to be successful in getting in healthy snacks.

We’ve put together a list of 10 healthy snack ideas that will keep up with the busy schedules and keep your kids full and energized.

1. Fruit Kabobs: Easy and fun, all you need is your kids favorite foods and some skewers. Make it even more fun by having them help put them together. Just watch out for the sharp skewer ends!

2. Watermelon popsicles_SmallWatermelon Popsicles: Another fun and easy treat. Pick up some popsicle sticks and a watermelon. Slice the watermelon into triangles and insert the popsicle stick into the rind.

3. Apple Nachos: Full of good protein, cut up apple slices and lay on a plate and drizzle peanut butter over. For a little extra sweetness, add a little bit of chocolate drizzle as well.

4. Ants on a Log: Another favorite, grab some celery, peanut butter and raisins or craisins. Smear some peanut butter on the celery and let your kids add on the raisins!

Strawberry smoothie5. Smoothies: The combinations are endless and one blender-full can go a long way. To make it easier, you can buy pre-cut, frozen fruits and veggies and just add your milk or water. Make a big batch and keep in the fridge or freeze in popsicle molds for a quick and refreshing snack. This is a great way to also sneak in some of those veggies your kids won’t eat, like spinach or quinoa.

6. Homemade Trail Mix: Another easy one that the kids can help with is trail mix. Get some granola, mixed nuts, chocolate chips, raisins, etc. – whatever they will eat and let them mix it all together in a big bowl and portion into small bags for easy, on-the-go snacks.

7. Fruit Salsa and Chips: Cut up some fresh fruit like strawberries and kiwi and get a bag of whole wheat pita chips or even cinnamon pita chips for added flavor.

8. Veggies and Hummus: Pick up the individual size hummus packs and have your kids pack their favorite veggies into snack bags for an easy and healthy snack.

Green grapes9. Frozen or Dried Fruit: We’re not talking the pre-frozen fruit you can buy for smoothies, but buying fresh fruit like bananas and grapes and freezing for a refreshing and healthy snack. Dried fruit is also a quick and easy snack for traveling where fresh or frozen won’t last.

10. Cracker Sandwiches: Select a good multi-grain cracker, your kids favorite lunch meat and cheese and let them build their own cracker sandwich!

Make sure as your summer kicks into high gear that you remember to also make sure your child has a water bottle with them so they can stay hydrated all day long. Let them pick out a favorite and write their name on it.
